Disney Called & We Answered

The bags are unpacked and the laundry is in piles and we are all experiencing the letdown that can only come after being forced to return to the real world after a fabulous vacation. Let me preface this post by saying that we are family that loves Disney World and have just come back from our 3rd visit. To us there is nothing quite like WDW and for me, Magic Kingdom is truly magical BUT when planning our vacation this year, I was looking for something different (think Grand Canyon, Yosemite, etc.). So when my husband called me to tell me what he wanted to do I was floored – he wanted to go to Disney World for Star Wars Weekend. Why was I floored when I just said we love Disney? Here are just a few reasons:

  • We had just gone in November.

  • He is on the bottom of the Totem Pole of Love for WDW in this trio.

  • The only dates that worked were in mid-June which meant heat and crowds. I HATE heat and he HATES crowds.

So with equal parts excitement and trepidation, I booked our trip and set about trying to make meal reservations and plan the days around SSW. However, when I saw the complete and utter joy on my hubby’s face when we got our confirmation, I knew it was going to be okay. In case you were wondering, the hubster is a HUGE Star Wars Fan in a house with me (who remembers if fondly from childhood) and our offspring (who has no interest whatsoever in his precious franchise). In the 45 days we had between booking and leaving, he threw himself into planning, visiting forums to get tips, and generally being more excited than a kid in a candy store.

I won’t bore you with all the details of the trip (you can check out the pics instead), but I will say this – we rank this as the best WDW trip EVAH! We don’t know if it was because the DH got to get his full Star Wars on or because we did things we hadn’t done on previous trips or because we decided to stay in a new resort…we do know that between seeing the Storm Troopers act incredibly silly at every turn, getting soaked on Kali River Rapids and finally getting to ride the Seven Dwarves Mine Train, we had a blast even in the heat.

AND to my husband’s eternal delight, my daughter has announced that she wants to go to Star Wars Weekends every year…and that means that when Disney calls next year, I have a feeling that we will be picking up on the first ring.
